Biography

By way of introduction, I am a Professor at Rutgers University (USA) as well as a Visiting Professor at the Mannheim Centre for Criminology in the Department of Social Policy, London School of Economics and the Institute of Criminology, Law School, University of Sydney (Australia). I have recently completed a trilogy of books titled: Visions of Prisons: Wars, Walls & Watching (2026), The Bastille Effect, Transforming Sites of Political Imprisonment (2022), and Escape to Prison: Penal Tourism and the Pull of Punishment (2015), all at the University of California Press.
